Breath Work - an introduction to using the breath in Yoga - NEW
Sunday 8th Nov, 12.00 to 12.40pm
Tir Na Nog (venue just outside Glasgow to the north)
FREE
40 minutes of theory and practise on the use of the breath in Yoga and
for general well being. I will be taking you through using the full
yoga breath, its benefits and practise and how it can be used in yoga
and daily life. Then, we shall consider the use of the breath in
meditation and how we can focus on this more subtle breath to take us
into a deeper state of calm and quiet, and its profound usefullness in
gaining control over your mind.
Both sessions are mainly practical with an introduction of theory and
there will be some notes to take away.
(this is part of an open day at tir Na nog and so other free talks are also
available that day)

Introduction to Yogic Meditation - NEW

This practical session explains the benefits of meditation and introduces a
simple yet effective method of Yogic meditation, Self-Enquiry, by
Ramana Maharishi. We shall be doing several short meditations to
exemplify the techniques and give you guidance on how to sit, where to
focus, how to breath, how to quieten your mind etc. This is for
beginners to meditation or those wishing to learn this particular
technique. The evening will leave you feeling relaxed and calm and
ready to start practice by yourself.

Purification and Cleansing Day

Cleansing the body can be extremely effective for giving you more
energy, health and well being. On this fun day we shall consider the
affects of 'toxing' and the benefits of 'detoxing'. I shall talk about
your diet, how to adjust it in very simple and effective ways for
health and natural weight harmonising so you come to a more balanced
approach to food. We shall also go through a 10 day gentle cleanse to
get you started on your new healthy lifestyle (with notes to take away
with you).
The physical body is going to be our companion for the whole of our
lives, and how we treat it can influence everything from our physical
health, our emotional state, to our ability to concentrate and control
our mind. This workshop also aims to help those who do not have a
basic knowledge of what is going on under their skin by discussing
some basic Anatomy and Physiology, by reviewing some of the relevant
organs of the body, and their functions.
Finally, the Yogis have an entire system related to the purification
of the body - Kriya Yoga. We shall consider the importance of purity
from the yogic perspective and discuss the practical aspects of
several of these kriya practices. By the end of the workshop you will
know a set of basic and highly effective cleansing practices which you
can use daily.
There is no prerequisite for this workshop, except an open mind!

Understand Your Mind and Meditation Workshops

£45 for one day, or £75 for both (£35/ £60 for full time students or
repeaters)
Yoga and NLP; East meets West to help understand and work with your mind.
This is 2 days of workshop combining the esoteric teachings of the
East with some very effective NLP tools from the West.
This workshop is very practical as we take some very useful
understandings of the way that the mind works from NLP and make it
relevant for yogis (and others) who are trying to control their mind
and/or work with meditation. It contains the strongest tools that I
have found for detaching from the mind and allowing the state of
witness consciousness to blossom (witness consciousness is considered
by some to the most important teaching of esoteric yoga for
evolutionary development). Using a structure which also pulls a lot
from Patanjalis Sutras and Sri Aurobindos thoughts on consciousness
and how the mind works we will go through the workings of the mind and
therefore how thoughts, tendancies, habits, attachments, etc are
created, and put it into the bigger picture of the ultimate goals of
yoga or how it is relevant for your daily life.
I then introduce the vedantic meditation technique of Ramana Maharishi
which is wonderfully simple and yet proven to be successful by its
tradition and the great practitioners who advocate it.
You shall be introduced to techniques on the first date which you
should then work with until the second date to really experience the
teachings first hand. (extended workshop from the 'understand your
Mind' 1/2 day).
