This is a part time role of 20 hours per week

Up to £6.97 per hour

Job Description

To provide direct support to staff, students and members of the community in educational establishments with particular reference to customer care. To undertake duties relating to the operation of buildings and surrounding grounds, ensuring minimal disruption to the daily activities of establishment users.

Responsibilities

Opening of educational premises and grounds at prescribed times and ensuring that these are secure at the end of the working day.
Co-operating with all appropriate personnel and agencies in maintaining the security of the premises.
Whilst in attendance, patrolling the premises and associated grounds (as defined elsewhere), monitoring public areas and generally ensuring that security is maintained during hours of opening. This may include the operation and monitoring of closed circuit television (CCTV) equipment and the use of radio communications devices.
Responding to emergency call-outs in accordance with established procedures, including attending at the location, contacting the appropriate authorities, inspecting for damage and theft, effecting temporary repairs and, where necessary, liaising with contractors/emergency services on site.
Ensuring that graffiti is removed/concealed as soon as possible.
Monitoring that standard of cleaning throughout the building; recording any failure to meet the prescribed standards and taking appropriate in consultation with responsible officer.
Transporting materials and equipment throughout the building ensuring that these are delivered in good time and stored appropriately. Janitorial staff should be adequately trained and equipped to undertake portage duties in accordance with manual handling regulations. Preparing rooms and halls for a range of uses, including setting out, removal and storage of furniture and equipment, erecting and dismantling stages, platforms etc.
All this is accordance with health and safety and manual handling procedures.
Observing established health and safety procedures and ensuring that these are applied appropriately.
Undertaking reception duties; dealing with enquiries from members of the public, teaching and support staff and students regarding availability of lets, hours of opening etc.
In some establishments it may be appropriate for the Service Support Officer(s)/Janitor(s) to have day-to-day responsibility for administrating for lets process.
Some of this is likely to involve the use of computer based information systems.
As required, the post holder will also undertake cash handling and/or banking duties in accordance with procedures.
Where the establishment has a swimming pool; undertaking tests and maintenance in accordance with the Janitorial Manual.
Any other duties arising and reasonably pertaining to the post.
