Senior ITS Engineer, Highways & Traffic

Our client is the market leader in Highways planning, design, procurement, and maintenance management. They have a deep understanding that encapsulates all Highways economic, social and environmental dimensions as well as design and construction.

Technology Transport Services provides concept, design and development services in transport systems and efficient communications networks.

TTS - Research and trials business stream are looking to secure resources to carry out new commissions starting in 2009. Part of the business stream plan is to secure a senior ITS engineer who can manage projects and provide technical expertise in the field of ITS. This is part of an ongoing plan to expand the TTS team in Glasgow. Their current work and growth areas include;

ITS strategy development and delivery
ATM monitoring and evaluation
Research framework technical consultancy and research projects
Development of HA VMS policy; in conjunction with our Area Teams a wide range of opportunities exist for technological and operational innovation from quick wins to major controlled motorway schemes
Electronic toll collection and road user charging.
Transport Information system integration.
The role will involve working closely with customers and developing innovative technology solutions that support customer business objectives. The successful candidate will have experience of managing the development of traffic management and traffic information systems and investigating and trialling technology solutions in the roadside environment. The role will include day to day management of project team and include responsibility for securing repeat business, developing proposals, writing business cases and reporting to the business stream leader.

We are looking for ITS Engineer with 4 - 5 years experience managing and delivering technology projects for Road Authorities in the U.K.

Ideally, candidates will be able to reference applications of innovative thinking and demonstrate strong self motivation to play a role in consolidating and building their ITS capability. Candidates should be competent in chairing meetings have proven report writing and presentation skills. A track record of delivery within the public sector for both Local Highway Authorities, and the Highways Agency will be considered particularly advantageous.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate applying Prince 2 processes in managing projects to deliver successful outcomes to time and budget.

Essential academic qualifications and competencies

- BEng or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, IT or Software
- Project Management, Team Management
- Detailed knowledge of Intelligent Transport Systems
- Data communications and telecommunications
- ITS System architectures

Desirable academic qualifications and competencies:-

- MEng or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, IT or Software
- CEng Status
- Software development processes including (UML)
- Expert knowledge of software development process
- Prince 2 Accredited
